About Kent

 

I’m a filmmaker, educator, and instructional design researcher with a passion for bridging the gap between creative production and pedagogical innovation. With more than two decades of experience in media, including 13 years as Creative Director at a group of television stations in Southern California, I’ve transitioned into higher education to help shape the next generation of storytellers through both practice and research.

I’m currently pursuing two advanced degrees:

• A PhD in Leadership with an emphasis in Instructional Technology, where I explore how emerging tools like generative AI can enhance storytelling education

• An MFA in Film & Television, refining my creative practice for the classroom and beyond

These programs build on my strong academic foundation:

• BA in Film

My teaching philosophy centers on designing technology-enhanced, project-based learning experiences that mirror the collaborative and experimental nature of a real film set. I develop coursework that blends narrative craft with tools like Playlab.ai, Adobe Creative Cloud, and interactive LMS modules, allowing students to engage as both creators and critical thinkers.

 

At the heart of my work are values that drive everything I do: curiosity, collaboration, creative equity, and service. I believe every student deserves the tools and support to find their voice, and that learning should be as dynamic and meaningful as the stories we aim to tell.

 

Just as I’ve been mentored and encouraged throughout my own journey, it is deeply important to me to give back to those who are just starting out, especially those who may not otherwise have access to opportunities in this industry. My mission is to lift others as I climb—to open doors, foster inclusive learning spaces, and help the next generation of creators rise with confidence, skill, and purpose.

Whether I’m directing on set or mentoring in the classroom, my goal is to foster environments where technology empowers expression—and education ignites transformation.
